2027: Atiku-Obi Alliance Won’t Work — Keyamo

Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has dismissed the idea of a political alliance between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections, describing it as an outdated move that won’t threaten President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances.

Speaking on Sunday, August 4, Keyamo said Nigerians are now wise to opposition tactics and won’t fall for recycled political strategies.

“Someone is flaunting wealth and still claiming to fight for the poor, how does that add up?” he questioned, indirectly referring to one of the opposition figures.

He claimed the Tinubu-led administration is stabilising the economy, pointing to rising revenue, foreign reserves, and a stronger naira.

According to him, opponents are trying to sway public opinion by exaggerating economic hardship.

“They want to reduce governance to the price of yams. That’s pure emotion,” Keyamo said.

Commenting on Peter Obi’s past support, Keyamo argued that his 2023 votes were based on religion and youth energy. If he becomes Atiku’s running mate, he said, that enthusiasm might disappear.

He added, “If Obi runs as vice president, many Christian voters may lose interest. Remember, the president’s wife is a pastor, that also connects with the faith community.”

Keyamo insisted that combining their past votes won’t be enough: “We got 8.4 million votes in 2023. That kind of alliance won’t shake us.”
