Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal representatives have accused Nigerian authorities of unfair treatment, alleging that criminal proceedings against her were fast-tracked while serious complaints she lodged have been ignored.
The criticism follows recent federal charges filed against the senator, a move her lawyers say reflects deep-rooted bias in the justice system. According to her legal counsel, over a dozen petitions were submitted earlier this year, ranging from threats to personal safety to defamation, yet none have received attention from law enforcement.
“There can be no justice when only one side is being heard,” said a statement from her legal team on Wednesday, calling out what they describe as a pattern of institutional silence when politically powerful figures are named in complaints.
The senator, currently overseas on personal matters, has acknowledged the case and vowed to honour the court process once a date is confirmed.
Her lawyers have urged the public to remain vigilant and demanded equal application of justice regardless of political affiliation or influence.
