A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has made public his plans to seek the party’s nomination for the 2026 Osun State governorship election. The former deputy governor shared this news through a message on his social media account over the weekend.
He plans to hold an official launch for his bid on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, at the All Progressives Congress office in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, starting at 10 a.m. The gathering carries the slogan “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams.”
In his online statement, Omisore shared that careful thought and talks with many people led him to this choice. He said: “My dear residents of Osun State, following thorough consideration and broad discussions, I have chosen to officially state my desire to seek the position of governor in Osun State come 2026 on the ticket of our esteemed party, the All Progressives Congress.”
His effort aims to bring back optimism, improve how the state is run, and create better prospects for locals. Omisore stressed: “This effort belongs to all of us, not just me. I kindly ask you to stand with me as we embark on this daring journey for the Osun Rescue Mission 2026.”
Omisore brings a wealth of experience to the table from his long career in politics. He acted as deputy governor of Osun State between 1999 and 2003 while serving with the Alliance for Democracy. From 2003 to 2011, he represented Osun East in the Senate and led the committee on budget allocations there.
In 2014, he ran for governor under the Peoples Democratic Party banner but fell short against the sitting leader, Rauf Aregbesola. Four years later, in 2018, he tried again, this time with the Social Democratic Party. He switched to the All Progressives Congress in 2021 and soon after, in 2022, took up the role of national secretary at the party’s big meeting in Abuja when his rival pulled out.
Observers see him as one of the top names likely to vie strongly for the All Progressives Congress ticket in the upcoming contest.
