China has thrown its weight behind Nigeria and called on the world to honour the country’s independence, after a US warning of possible army action.
A top Chinese official praised President Bola Tinubu’s team for steering the nation on a growth track that fits its own needs. This comes amid rows with the US over claims of harm to Christians in Nigeria.
At a media chat in Beijing on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s foreign office, made the point clear. She said China, as a key ally to Nigeria, rejects any outside force using faith or rights issues as an excuse to poke into another land’s business or push fines and war threats.
The tough words follow a recent US alert about attacks on believers there.
