A traditional ruler in Ogun State has asked his people to club together and buy an aircraft to run flights from the area’s new airport. The king said this would help the place grow and bring in more business for everyone living there.
The airport, built in Ikenne-Remo, is ready but lacks a plane to start services. The monarch told a crowd at a town meeting that owning their own jet would cut waiting times and link the state better to other parts of Nigeria. He pointed out that people from the area have the cash and smarts to make it happen, just like they’ve done for roads and schools before.
Local leaders backed the idea, saying it could create jobs and boost trade in farm goods and crafts. They plan to set up a group to raise funds and pick the right type of small plane. The king warned that without quick action, outsiders might take the lead and leave the state behind.
The call has sparked chats online, with some praising the push for home pride and others asking if the government should chip in instead. No word yet from state bosses on helping with the cost.
