Lagos State officials recorded 920 cases of gender-based violence against men from November 2024 to November 2025. The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency revealed these figures on Wednesday in Yaba. They shared the details during celebrations for International Men’s Day with the University of Lagos.

More men now report abuse, showing greater trust in the state’s support systems. Officials welcomed this trend as a sign of progress against stigma. They stressed that men deserve help without shame or judgment.

Domestic violence topped the reports at 437 cases. Other incidents included emotional and psychological harm.

75 cases of non-sexual and gender-based violence
29 cases of denial of resources
12 cases of sexual harassment
2 cases of rape
1 case of attempted rape
1 case of sexual assault by penetration
2 cases of threats to life
2 cases of revenge release of nude or pornographic content

These numbers highlight deep pain that many men endure in silence. Emotional abuse and financial strain often leave lasting scars, even raising risks of suicide. Society must listen and act to ease this hidden suffering.
