Abuja Estate Linked to Emefiele Falls into Ruin Amid Housing Controversy

A luxury estate linked to former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, now seized by the EFCC, has become overrun by snakes and bushes in Lokogoma, Abuja.

The 753-unit estate, Nigeria’s largest single asset recovery, is set to be sold to low- and middle-income Nigerians under the government’s Renewed Hope housing plan.

The Housing Ministry says the estate will undergo safety checks before sale, with flexible payment options available. However, real estate experts doubt low-income earners can afford the property, citing high construction standards and potential resale by the elite.

Some experts suggest selling the estate at market value and using the proceeds to build affordable homes. Others recommend converting the duplexes into smaller flats. Transparency concerns remain, with calls for open access via a public portal or a digital raffle system.
