Abuja Hospital Offers Free Health Screening for Elderly on World Alzheimer’s Day

A private hospital in Abuja has offered free medical screening for elderly residents to mark World Alzheimer’s Day. The initiative, organised by the Nisa Premier Hospital in Jabi, is aimed at promoting brain health and the early detection of age-related conditions.

The hospital’s management stated that the free tests would include checks for Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, high blood pressure, and diabetes. A consultant neurologist at the hospital explained that early detection is crucial for managing Alzheimer’s, a condition that affects memory and cognitive functions. The hospital emphasised its commitment to supporting the wellbeing of the elderly population in the Federal Capital Territory.

World Alzheimer’s Day is observed internationally every year on September 21st to raise awareness and challenge the stigma associated with the disease. Medical professionals use the day to educate the public on the importance of early diagnosis and the support available for patients and their families. The hospital encouraged family members to bring senior citizens for the free screening to assess their health status.
