The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has linked a large estate in Abuja, with 753 duplexes and apartments, to former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The property, located in Lokogoma District and covering 150,500 square metres, was reportedly bought with funds from corruption.
On December 2, 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie, ordered the property’s permanent forfeiture to the Federal Government.
The EFCC claims Emefiele was involved in massive fraud during his time at the CBN, using public funds and kickbacks to acquire properties.
Court records revealed that three companies paid N2.2 billion for the estate, with suspicions of money laundering involved.
The estate, meant for mass housing, has been abandoned since mid-2023.
Emefiele is also facing charges of fraud, forgery, and financial misconduct in courts in Lagos and Abuja.
Efforts to reach his legal team for comments were unsuccessful.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said the agency withheld some names linked to the case, in line with legal rules for ongoing investigations.
The EFCC said it is committed to ensuring justice is served.
