Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer seek the Peoples Democratic Party’s nomination for the 2026 governorship election, party leaders said in Osogbo on Monday. Internal strife at the national level has derailed key processes, making the primaries impossible. Adeleke had fully met all requirements, including buying and submitting forms from October 13 to 25, and gaining clearance on October 30.

Party chairman Sunday Bisi explained that suspensions and counter-suspensions of national officers halted ward and local government congresses set for November 24 and 29. These events would have chosen delegates for the December 2 primaries. Legal battles now grip the disputes, leaving the schedule in ruins.

Bisi noted the governor’s frustration with the chaos. “Because of the internal crisis rocking the national leadership of our party, the information at my disposal is that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the nomination of the PDP for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election, except a resolution recognised by INEC is reached within the INEC timeline.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission requires candidate names by December 15, with polls on August 8, 2026. Factions tear at the PDP’s unity, risking deeper rifts in a state hungry for steady hands.
