The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) says the defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan are valid, insisting her alleged statements against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and ex-Kogi governor Yahaya Bello breached the Penal Code.
The senator is accused of falsely claiming that both men plotted to kill her and linking Akpabio to the death of a young woman, Iniobong Umoren.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who pleaded not guilty, filed a preliminary objection to dismiss the case, arguing abuse of power by the AGF. But the prosecution maintains that the charges followed a full police investigation and were filed “in the public interest.”
At the latest hearing, the case was delayed over improper service of court documents. Justice Chizoba Oji adjourned proceedings to December 1.
