A senior aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio has rejected claims circulating online that the lawmaker is ill or receiving treatment abroad.
Kenny Okolugbo, Akpabio’s media and strategy consultant, said the reports are false, stressing that the Senate President is in good health and fully engaged in his official responsibilities.
Speaking on a television programme on Thursday, Okolugbo pointed out that Akpabio has been visible at Senate activities, which, according to him, should put the rumours to rest.
Okolugbo warned against the unchecked spread of misinformation online, urging authorities to enforce existing laws guiding responsible use of social media.
The clarification follows an online report alleging that Akpabio collapsed and was flown to London for medical care, an incident said to have kept him away from recent Senate engagements.
