The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is heating up, and for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, a massive showdown with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana is just around the corner. In a match that could decide the fate of both teams, every decision will be critical. And now, we know who will be making those all-important calls on the field.
FIFA, the world’s football governing body, has officially appointed a team of referees from Gabon to take charge of this high-stakes encounter. The man in the middle will be Pierre Ghislain Atcho, an experienced Gabonese referee who will have the tough job of keeping the game fair and under control.
He won’t be alone, of course. Assisting him on the sidelines will be his fellow countrymen, Boris Marlaise Ditsoga and Amos Abeigne Ndong. The fourth official, who handles substitutions and other duties, will be Cregue Fleury Moukagni.
But the officiating team doesn’t stop there. To ensure the referees are doing their job correctly, FIFA has also appointed a referee assessor. This role will be filled by Olivier Safari Kabene from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He will be watching the referees’ performance closely and reporting back to FIFA. Finally, the overall match commissioner, responsible for making sure the entire event runs smoothly, will be Mike Letti from Uganda.
This match against South Africa is just one of two important qualifiers for the Super Eagles. Before they head to Bloemfontein for that crucial game, they have another important fixture to take care of. They will first face off against Rwanda in a home game in Uyo.
For the match against Rwanda, a different set of officials will be in charge. A team from Chad will be overseeing the game, with Allaou Mahamat as the main referee. He will be assisted by Bogollah Issa and Moussa Hafiz, with Abdelkerim Ousmane serving as the fourth official.
The referee assessor for the Rwanda game will be Taher Abdelsalam Mahmoud from Egypt, and the match commissioner will be Bakary Jammeh from Gambia.
With the officials now confirmed for both matches, the stage is set for a thrilling and decisive period for the Super Eagles. Fans will be hoping for fair and accurate refereeing as Nigeria continues its quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
