A young television host and reporter, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who worked for Arise News, will have her funeral on Saturday, 18 October 2025, in her home area of Anambra State. The 29-year-old lost her life in a violent break-in at her flat in Katampe, Abuja, on 29 September 2025. During the attack, a watchman named Barnabas Danlami also died.
Maduagwu handled news shows, gathered stories, and helped create programmes for the channel. She had trained as a lawyer, worked as a model, and built a solid career in broadcasting.
The send-off events begin with a night of remembrances on Sunday, 12 October 2025, at the THISDAY Dome in Abuja’s main business area. Next comes a gathering with songs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, at Corpus Christi Cathedral on Kaduna Street in Port Harcourt. The main ceremony, a church service followed by burial, takes place on 18 October at St Theresa Catholic Church in Agulu.
Police in the Federal Capital Territory have caught 12 people linked to the robbery gang. They showed the group to the public on Saturday. Early checks show the criminals bought guns—a homemade AK-47, a shotgun, and a handgun—from a seller who works along the border between Nigeria and Niger.
