ASUU-UNIMAID Rejects Buhari Renaming, Threatens Legal Battle

Lecturers at the University of Maiduguri have rejected the Federal Government’s plan to rename the institution after former President Muhammadu Buhari, warning they will fight the move in court.

In a statement after an emergency congress, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) described the decision as “a direct affront to the university’s 50-year heritage and identity.”

“This action is arbitrary, devoid of meaningful consultation, and undermines university autonomy,” the union said, adding that it has mandated its executives to challenge the change through legal channels.
