APC chieftain Ayiri Emami has kicked against President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a 15% import duty on petrol and diesel, saying the move will worsen hardship for Nigerians.
Speaking in Abuja, Emami said the policy would raise fuel prices and make life tougher for ordinary citizens.
“This tax won’t hurt marketers. It will hurt Nigerians who are already struggling,” he said.
He urged the government to suspend the policy until it provides more relief measures.
The new import duty, meant to protect local refineries, could push petrol prices close to ₦965 per litre, sparking fears of another rise in living costs.
