Buhari Buried in Daura as Tinubu, World Leaders Pay Final Respects

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, following his passing on Sunday in London at the age of 82.

His body, flown into Nigeria aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several high-ranking government officials. The solemn reception included a full military ceremony, symbolizing a nation’s final salute to one of its most enduring statesmen.

The late president’s final journey to Daura was marked by heavy security, military honours, and the presence of dignitaries from within and beyond Nigeria’s borders, including former heads of state and African leaders.

A brief farewell service, including funeral prayers led by the Chief Imam of Katsina, preceded the burial. Buhari was interred according to Islamic rites.

Tributes continue to pour in from around the world, with foreign leaders acknowledging Buhari’s impact on Nigeria’s politics and global diplomacy.

A three-day mourning period will continue with additional memorial rites scheduled in Daura.
