The Christian Association of Nigeria has raised concern over the title of a newly released Nollywood movie, A Very Dirty Christmas, describing it as disrespectful to the Christian faith.
In a statement, CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said Christmas is a holy period that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ and should not be presented in a way that strips it of its spiritual value.
He argued that attaching the word “dirty” to Christmas sends the wrong message and offends believers.
CAN stressed that while filmmakers are free to be creative, such freedom should be exercised with sensitivity, especially in a religiously diverse country like Nigeria.
The association called on film regulators to review how the title was approved and urged Nollywood stakeholders to be more mindful when using religious themes.
The group also appealed to the film’s producer to address the concerns raised, warning that making light of sacred beliefs could fuel unnecessary tension in society.
A Very Dirty Christmas was released in cinemas nationwide on December 16, 2025.
