A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, adjourned Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s criminal defamation case to February 23, 2025, on Monday. The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation charged the Kogi Central lawmaker with three counts over her claims that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello plotted to kill her. Justice Chizoba Oji approved the delay after the prosecution sought more time to respond to a preliminary objection.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawyer, Ehiogie West Idahosa, argued the two similar suits filed by the AGF abused court processes. He urged the judge to hear the objection right away. The prosecution countered in an affidavit that police probes cleared a strong case, filed in public interest.
Justice Oji noted the prosecution missed the 48-hour notice rule for the request. She still granted the adjournment to serve justice, turning down the defence’s push to proceed. Akpoti-Uduaghan attended the session with her husband.
This fresh hurdle in a heated feud leaves a senator caught in legal crosswinds, her bold words now a shield and a snare. Families like hers bear the quiet toll of battles that echo far beyond the courtroom.
