The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than half a million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, just five days after its relaunch.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, represented by National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu, revealed on Friday that as of midnight, August 22, 2025, a total of 505,906 citizens had pre-registered.
He described the turnout as proof of Nigerians’ commitment to democracy and their readiness to participate in future elections.
The CVR, which began with online registration on August 18, will enter its physical phase on August 25. From that date, both online applicants and fresh registrants will be able to complete their biometrics at INEC offices nationwide.
Yakubu urged eligible Nigerians, particularly youths, new voters, and those seeking to update their records, to seize the opportunity. He emphasised that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) remains vital for effective participation in elections and called on political parties, civil society, and the media to support voter mobilisation efforts.
INEC said the CVR will be conducted at 811 centres nationwide, including all 774 Local Government Area offices, from Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
