The Aliko Dangote Foundation launched a N100 billion annual scholarship programme that will greatly expand access to education financing in Nigeria. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund described the initiative as a strong example of private-sector support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Vice President Kashim Shettima unveiled the scheme in Lagos on Thursday, December 11, 2025, representing the President.
The 10-year programme begins in 2026 and focuses on public secondary schools and tertiary institutions. It includes a major STEM scholarship track to help vulnerable students stay in school and build the nation’s human capital. The effort starts with 45,000 scholars and grows to 155,000 beneficiaries each year by the fourth year, eventually aiding about 1.3 million students across all 774 local government areas.
A key part features the Aliko Dangote STEM Scholars initiative. This provides tuition aid for 30,000 undergraduate students annually in public universities and polytechnics. It seeks to widen higher education opportunities and spark innovation among young Nigerians.
NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr praised President Tinubu for promoting joint efforts to strengthen education. He said the foundation’s long-term pledge matches the President’s goal to lift financial hurdles for students and nurture future talent. Sawyerr confirmed NELFUND’s eagerness to partner with the Dangote Foundation and government bodies for smooth, clear, and wide-reaching results.
He stressed that teamwork between government, private players, and partners is vital for a strong, inclusive education system. This reflects the President’s push for everyone to share in national growth. As families struggle with schooling costs, the programme brings fresh hope for brighter futures through learning.
