Management at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has commenced a significant reorganisation of its personnel, attributing the move to repeated acts of sabotage that have raised serious safety alarms at the 650,000-barrel-per-day facility . The decision was communicated to staff in a letter dated September 24, 2025, which stated that affected employees’ services were “no longer required” and instructed them to hand over company property .

A senior company official confirmed the authenticity of the reorganisation but strongly refuted characterising it as a mass dismissal . The official clarified that the action was a targeted measure to address specific security breaches and plug leakages, describing it as a “clean-up” exercise . It was emphasised that the sudden nature of the action was necessary to prevent individuals involved in the alleged sabotage from concealing evidence .

The official further asserted that operations at the refinery continue uninterrupted and that not all staff were impacted . The company maintains that once the internal issues are resolved, there is potential for some affected workers to be reabsorbed . This development occurs amidst existing industrial disputes with petroleum unions concerning labour practices and safety standards at the plant .
