The Dangote Refinery has announced that it will begin selling petrol and diesel across Nigeria from August 15. This move comes at a time when many Nigerians are worried about another possible fuel scarcity, especially in Lagos.
Tanker drivers and fuel marketers in Lagos are protesting a new rule by the state government. The rule, called the “E-Call Up system,” is meant to control how fuel trucks move along the busy Lekki-Epe road. To use this system, each truck is required to pay N12,500. But the drivers say this is too expensive and are threatening to stop transporting fuel unless the fee is reduced to N2,500.
This disagreement could disrupt fuel supply in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Refinery is stepping in with a plan to help. It will use 4,000 brand-new gas-powered trucks to deliver fuel across the country. The refinery is also offering free delivery and payment support for big buyers to make fuel more available and affordable.
