President Bola Tinubu has called on West African leaders to confront poverty, unemployment, and regional instability by investing in education, innovation, and inclusive development.
Delivering his message through the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs at ECOWAS’s 50th anniversary in Accra, Tinubu emphasised that the future of the bloc lies in empowering young people and protecting democratic values. He urged member states to deepen economic cooperation and initiate reforms that would strengthen the region’s institutions and integration efforts.
He also appealed for continued dialogue with Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, nations that recently exited the bloc, to rebuild trust and regional unity.
The two-day summit in Ghana also examined the impact of the Alliance of Sahel States’ (AES) newly imposed import levy, which ECOWAS sees as a challenge to the bloc’s free trade goals.
