ECOWAS Pushes for Stronger Police Collaboration to Fight Crime and Insecurity

ECOWAS is calling on West African countries to make their police forces work more closely together to fight crime and insecurity in the region.

At a meeting in Abuja, Sani Adamu, a top official in ECOWAS peace operations, said:

“Police across the region need to be ready to handle rising crimes like kidnapping, terrorism, and online fraud. We must be prepared to act fast when there’s a threat.”

He said countries should learn from places like Sierra Leone, where the police work well with other security agencies to protect citizens.

The meeting also talked about improving the list of trained officers who can be sent quickly to help in peacekeeping missions when needed. Sierra Leone’s Deputy Police Chief, Sahr Senesi, added:

“This list shouldn’t just sit in a file. It should help us take action fast to bring peace where there’s trouble.”

Representing Nigeria’s Police Chief, ACP Aniagboso Chinedum said.

“This gathering helps us unite and work as one region to keep our people safe.”
