The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has moved to clarify its role in two recent clashes between airline staff and passengers at Lagos airports, distancing itself from the controversies while calling for restraint.
In a statement, the authority explained that security operations inside the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 are overseen by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services and airline security units, not FAAN officers.
FAAN stressed that its aviation security officers only handle passenger and baggage screening at checkpoints and became involved in Emmanson’s case only after she was transferred to the police for further investigation.
The authority also condemned the growing trend of violent exchanges at airports, including a separate clash involving Fuji musician KWAM 1.
On its official channels, FAAN reminded both travelers and aviation workers that “violence is never the answer” and urged them to use proper complaint desks for grievances.
It further appealed to cabin crew and airline staff to uphold professionalism and courtesy, promising continuous training of aviation personnel to ensure safe and respectful service delivery.
Reassuring the public, FAAN underlined that passenger safety, comfort, and confidence in the aviation system remain its top priorities.
