FG Begins Salary Deductions to Recover December Overpayments

The Federal Government has initiated deductions from workers’ salaries to recover excess payments made in December 2024 due to a payroll system error, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has announced.

According to a statement from the OAGF’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, the overpayments were a result of technical issues that have since been corrected. The agency clarified that workers’ January and February 2025 salaries reflected normal earnings, following the exhaustion of arrears paid between October and December 2024, including wage awards and salary increases.

The OAGF reassured workers that barring any further adjustments, salaries would remain unchanged moving forward. It also stated that deductions for the December overpayments would continue until the funds were fully recovered.

On promotion arrears, the OAGF noted that payments are being processed by a dedicated committee under the Budget Office, with further disbursements pending official approval.
