The Federal Government declared Wednesday, December 25, 2025, and Thursday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It also announced Wednesday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday for New Year’s Day.
Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, issued the statement on Sunday, December 22, 2025, on behalf of Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The announcement urged Nigerians to embrace the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice linked to the birth of Jesus Christ.
Citizens should pray for peace, better security, and national growth during the season. Authorities also called on everyone to stay law-abiding and vigilant amid the celebrations.
As families prepare for joyful gatherings, these holidays offer time for reflection and unity across the nation.
