The Federal Government has released N3.7bn to staff of tertiary institutions nationwide under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF), marking the first major payout since the scheme was launched.
A statement from the Ministry of Education on Thursday said about 2,000 workers in 43 universities, polytechnics and colleges of education benefited from the initial disbursement. The ministry noted that the programme, part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has now moved from policy stage to real impact in the education sector.
The fund supports both academic and non-academic staff, though the ministry highlighted a gender imbalance among beneficiaries, 83% male and 17% female. It assured that efforts will be made to improve female participation in the next round.
Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the payout as a sign of the government’s commitment to improving staff welfare and strengthening institution.
