The Federal Government has emphasised the importance of equipping young Nigerians with practical skills to fuel national development, stressing that the future of the country rests on turning its youth into job creators and industry leaders.

This message was delivered by the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, during the 2025 Employability Fair held at Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.

Olawande described young people as the “engine room” of the nation’s growth and stated that current policies are being designed to align academic knowledge with market-relevant competencies.

According to him, the goal is no longer just to produce graduates but to raise innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who can contribute meaningfully to the economy.

He commended Caleb University for hosting the fair, which supports national efforts to close the gap between education and employability.

“Institutions that prepare students for the realities of the labour market are vital to solving Nigeria’s unemployment challenge,” he said.

Now in its second year, the fair drew participation from more than 100 companies across diverse sectors, offering students opportunities for mentoring, CV reviews, job interviews, and internship placements.

Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Olalekan Asikhia, described the initiative as part of the institution’s broader mission to shape globally competent graduates.
