Have you ever wondered what drives our leaders to choose their career paths? For Femi Gbajabiamila, the current Chief of Staff to the President, the journey to becoming a lawyer was not his first choice. In a surprising revelation, he shared that his heart was initially set on a completely different career: joining the military.
Gbajabiamila made this personal story public during a recent event at Albalti Army Barracks in Lagos. He was there to inaugurate a new 1200-seater auditorium, a project he helped make a reality. He explained to the audience that he has always had a deep love and admiration for the military. As a young man, his dream was to wear the uniform and serve his country as a soldier.
So, what stopped him? According to Gbajabiamila, it was a simple matter of not meeting the physical requirements. He tried to join the military, but during the recruitment interviews, he was told he didn’t make the cut because of issues with his weight or size. It was a setback, but it didn’t stop him from wanting to serve his country in another way.
Having to let go of his military dream, Gbajabiamila decided to pursue a career in law. It was his second choice, but it was a path that would eventually lead him to the highest levels of government in Nigeria.
Even though he never became a soldier, Gbajabiamila’s respect for the armed forces has never faded. He spoke warmly about the sacrifices soldiers make to keep the country safe and united. He described them as an inspiration and promised that the current government is committed to taking care of military personnel and their families.
The new auditorium, which has been named Bola Tinubu Hall, is just one of the ways Gbajabiamila is showing his appreciation for the military. The facility will be used for training, meetings, and other events that will benefit the soldiers at the barracks. Other speakers at the event praised Gbajabiamila for his continuous support for the military and his community.
