Residents of Agboyi Ori Omi, a remote island community in Lagos, have received a rare boost in medical support through a free healthcare mission facilitated by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The outreach, held in partnership with the Lagos State Health District II and international volunteers from the Taiwan Root Medical Peace Corps, brought essential services such as free medical consultations, drug supplies, dental and eye care, and screening for common ailments.
Representing Gbajabiamila, Desmond Elliot, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said the gesture was part of the government’s efforts to make healthcare accessible to all citizens, regardless of location.
“We’re bringing medical care directly to communities that are often overlooked. Everyone deserves a chance to live healthy,” he said.
Dr. Dayo Lajide, who oversees Lagos Health District II, described the intervention as timely for the riverine population, where over 40,000 residents have limited access to clinics. She noted that plans are underway to strengthen the island’s primary healthcare facilities.
Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Adetola Abubakar, also commended Gbajabiamila’s support, saying it reflects the administration’s vision of inclusive governance.
“This shows true concern for ordinary citizens. Programmes like this remind us that government still cares,” she said.
