The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a heads-up for potential thunderstorms and downpours across many parts of the country from Saturday through Monday.
According to the agency’s update, rainstorms are likely to hit several northern and southern states, with weather patterns shifting between scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the three-day period.
NiMet’s forecast suggests brief sunny spells may be followed by heavy rainfall and cloud cover, especially in the late afternoon.
In view of the forecast, NiMet is urging Nigerians to take necessary precautions. People are advised to avoid staying under trees during windy storms, disconnect electrical appliances during lightning strikes, and secure outdoor items that could be tossed by strong winds.
Travelers and motorists are also encouraged to exercise caution, especially when visibility is low due to heavy rainfall.
Operators in the aviation industry have been reminded to obtain up-to-date weather information specific to their destinations to avoid disruptions.
To stay ahead of the weather, NiMet recommends keeping tabs on daily forecasts via its website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
