The Federal Government has brought back History as a compulsory subject in primary and junior secondary schools.
Announcing the decision on Wednesday, the Ministry of Education said pupils will now learn the nation’s story from Primary One up to JSS3. At the senior level, students will take a new subject called Civic and Heritage Studies, which blends History with Civic Education.
“For the first time in decades, Nigerian pupils will study History continuously,” the ministry said, describing the move as a way to reconnect young people with their roots and build national pride.
The ministry also pledged to retrain teachers and provide resources so schools can fully deliver the new curriculum.
