‘I was supposed to be YBNL Princess’ – Candy Bleakz reveals

Akiode Blessing Mariam, better known as Candy Bleakz has opened up about a missed opportunity with YBNL Nation in 2015, revealing that she was on the verge of being signed to the record label but lost out to Temmie Ovwasa.

Speaking in an episode of the TV program “Trending,” hosted by reality star, KimOprah, Candy Bleakz shared insights into her career journey and the challenges faced by female artists in the Nigerian music industry.

During the interview, the Wale crooner disclosed that she was initially slated to become the YBNL Princess, a position ultimately filled by Temmie Ovwasa.

Reflecting on the moment Olamide, the label boss, unveiled Temmie Ovwasa, Candy Bleakz expressed her disappointment, stating, “The day Baddo (Olamide) unveiled Temmie Ovwasa, she is my friend but I was really sad. I was supposed to be the YBNL Princess. I was like, ‘Why did they sign someone else?'”

In addition to discussing her missed opportunity with YBNL Nation, Candy Bleakz shed light on the struggles faced by female artists in Nigeria. She highlighted the societal pressure placed on female artists regarding their appearance and image, stating, “For a female artist, when you’re pretty it’s a problem, when you’re ugly it’s a problem. When you’re too sexy it’s an issue and when you are not it’s an issue.”
