In a recent operation, Irish immigration authorities deported 35 Nigerian nationals, including nine women and five children, for breaching immigration laws. The removal, conducted via a chartered flight on June 4, 2025, marks Ireland’s first such deportation to Africa this year.
The operation was carried out by the Garda National Immigration Bureau. According to officials, all children deported were part of family units. A brief medical incident required an unscheduled stop, but the flight continued safely to Nigeria.
Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan defended the action, stating that enforcing deportation orders is essential to maintaining a fair and lawful immigration system.
“Those denied protection and issued deportation orders must leave the country. There are consequences for remaining in Ireland without permission,” he said.
This was the third charter removal flight organised by Ireland in 2025 as part of its efforts to strengthen immigration control.
