The Lagos State Government says at least 10,000 households in Akilo community, Ikeja, will now have access to clean water following the rehabilitation of the Akilo Waterworks.
At a meeting with residents, Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) Managing Director, Mukhtaar Tijani—represented by Adepeju Isola—announced that the facility is ready for full water production and distribution. He urged residents to connect to the supply, assuring them of steady service.
Tijani also advised residents to report burst pipes, vandalism, or illegal connections promptly, adding that customers could choose flexible payment options such as metering, billing, or kiosk purchases.
WaterAid Nigeria’s Programme Lead, Dr. Adebayo Alao, emphasized that the project is sustainable but urged residents to pay their bills regularly. “You would not be happy if, after three or six months, you discover no more water production. Therefore, you should pay your bills for the system to continue running,” he said.
