In a decisive move to uphold ethical standards, Lagos State University (LASU) has terminated the appointments of two senior academic staff following allegations of sexual misconduct, abuse of students, and financial malpractice.
According to an official statement from the university, the decision to sack both staff members was taken during the university’s 143rd Governing Council meeting held on July 3, 2025.
The Registrar and Secretary to Council, Emmanuel Fanu, issued in a statement that both individuals were found guilty of “gross misconduct” after internal investigations.
One of those dismissed is a senior academic who headed the School of Agriculture at LASU’s Epe campus. He was accused of mistreating students during farm practicals, reportedly exposing them to harsh weather without proper care. Allegations of sexual misconduct and verbal abuse also formed part of the case against him.
The second staff member, a departmental coordinator, was removed for allegedly mismanaging school funds. She was accused of diverting over ₦10 million from farm produce sales into her personal account, instead of remitting it to the university.
LASU said the actions of both lecturers went against the institution’s code of conduct and vowed to maintain discipline across all levels.
