Rep. Sanya Omirin, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing Atakunmosa East/West and Ilesa East/West Federal Constituency, has called on the Taiwanese government to expand its technical support for farmers in Osun State, emphasising the potential of palm oil as a major foreign exchange earner for Nigeria
Omirin made the appeal during a technology workshop hosted by the Taipei Trade Office in Iperindo, where farmers received training on modern agricultural practices. While appreciating Taiwan’s past contributions to Nigeria’s farming sector, the lawmaker stressed the need for more hands-on expertise and technology transfer to help rural farmers scale their production.
“With proper support, our farmers can shift from subsistence farming to export-driven agriculture,” Omirin said, noting that his constituency’s largely agrarian population could significantly impact the nation’s economy with better tools and knowledge.
Workshop facilitator, Mr. Abiola Esan, emphasised the importance of innovation, urging farmers to abandon outdated methods for modern techniques that would boost yield and quality. He applauded the Taipei Trade Office for investing in Nigerian agriculture and encouraged participants to apply the new skills to their businesses.
According to a statement from Omirin’s media office, attendees also received cash incentives from the Taiwanese government to support the implementation of their newly acquired skills.
