Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has accused the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of punishing Lagos corps member Ushie Uguamaye, known as Raye, for speaking out against the government.
Raye had criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies earlier this year. She now claims the NYSC withheld her discharge certificate in retaliation.
The scheme insists her service year was extended by two months because she missed an April biometric clearance. Effiong disputes this, saying she was present but deliberately denied clearance.
“What they are trying to achieve through Raye is to quell the voice of dissent in our country,” Effiong said, warning he would sue if the matter isn’t resolved.
