Makinde Declares Himself Qualified to Run for President in 2027

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has affirmed his readiness and qualification to contest the 2027 presidential election. He made the declaration during a media chat in Ibadan on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Makinde, who is serving his second term as governor, emphasised that he meets all constitutional requirements for the nation’s highest office.

The governor spoke amid ongoing political realignments and speculation about his future after his tenure ends in 2027. He highlighted his track record in governance, including infrastructure development, education reforms, and economic initiatives in Oyo State. Makinde stressed that leadership experience at the state level prepares him adequately for national responsibilities.

“I am qualified to become president,” Makinde stated firmly. He pointed to his achievements in Oyo as evidence of his capability to lead Nigeria effectively. The governor also addressed his differences with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, rejecting any alignment that could compromise the Peoples Democratic Party’s future.
