A 46-year-old resident of Rivers State faces charges after violently attacking a woman who refused his advances for marriage upon learning he was already wed and father to four youngsters.
Abi Baragon, the accused, reportedly shattered bottles over the woman’s head and stabbed her in a fit of rage, an incident caught on camera and widely shared online in a distressing clip from 20 June 2025. In the footage, the injured party cries out for aid as the man bolts from the scene, leaving her bloodied and in pain.
Officers from the Rivers State police force tracked down and detained Baragon on 13 October 2025 at the Nkpolu-Oroworukwo stretch along Mile 3 in Port Harcourt, thanks to sharp intelligence work and digital tracing by the human rights unit at headquarters. The woman received prompt medical care at a nearby facility to address her wounds.
Under questioning, Baragon at first denied any role in the beating but soon owned up to wielding broken glass and inflicting the stabs. Investigators believe the outburst stemmed from her firm rejection of his romantic overtures once she uncovered his existing family ties.
The force’s spokeswoman, Grace Iringe-Koko, outlined the case in a statement, noting the probe kicked off right after the footage exploded across social networks. She detailed how the clip showed the victim raising the alarm over the savage beating, prompting an all-out search for the culprit.
The top officer, Olugbenga Adepoju, hailed his team’s rapid response and thanked the public for tipping them off with vital clues. He vowed that no wrongdoer would escape justice, declaring that the law would soon haul Baragon before a judge once detectives tie up all loose ends.
