A 25-year-old resident of Bauchi State faces murder charges after allegedly knifing a motorcyclist in the neck during a fare dispute and making off with the victim’s two-wheeler in the early hours of Thursday.
The accused, identified as Musa Ibrahim from the Tilden Fulani area in the Toro local government district, flagged down the deceased, Abdulrahaman Ibrahim, around 4 a.m. near the Government Day Secondary School in Tilden Fulani. The two men knew each other from previous rides, and the argument over the fare quickly turned ugly.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect pulled out a sharp blade and slashed the rider’s throat in a fit of anger, causing him to slump over the bike’s handlebars. The attacker then hopped on the motorcycle and sped away, leaving the victim in a pool of blood on the roadside.
Passers-by who heard the commotion rushed to help but found the young rider already lifeless. They raised the alarm, drawing the attention of local officers who arrived shortly after to secure the scene and cart away the body for an autopsy at the state specialist hospital.
Police tracked down the suspect later that morning hiding in a nearby bush, where they recovered the stolen bike and the bloodied knife used in the attack. During interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to the killing, admitting he lost his temper when the rider demanded the full fare upfront.
The state police spokeswoman, SP Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the arrest in a statement and assured the public that investigators would leave no stone unturned. The suspect remains in custody at the Toro division, awaiting arraignment in court once formal charges are filed. Authorities have urged commuters to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to prevent similar tragedies.
