Engr. Farouk Ahmed handed over to Engr. Yau Idris Mohammed as the new Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority on Monday, December 23, 2025. The ceremony took place at the NMDPRA headquarters in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu appointed Mohammed on December 18, 2025, following the resignation of Ahmed. The transition marked the end of Ahmed’s tenure and the start of Mohammed’s leadership in regulating the midstream and downstream sectors.
Mohammed brings extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. He previously served as Executive Director of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board and held senior roles in the Department of Petroleum Resources. His appointment aims to strengthen oversight, promote transparency, and drive investments in the sector.
The new chief pledged to build on existing reforms and align operations with the Petroleum Industry Act. He committed to fostering collaboration with stakeholders to ensure energy security and sustainable growth.
Ahmed thanked staff and partners for their support during his time in office. He wished Mohammed success in advancing the authority’s mandate.
The change comes amid efforts to address regulatory challenges and boost domestic refining capacity. Mohammed’s leadership is expected to focus on efficiency, compliance, and innovation in Nigeria’s evolving petroleum landscape.
