Popular Nigerian actor and satirist Debo Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, plays a police officer in Freedom Way, a new film that has stirred conversations for its unflinching take on youth struggles and systemic injustice.
Directed by Olalekan Afolabi in his first feature outing and produced by Blessing Uzzi for Bluhouse Studios, Freedom Way confronts the ripple effects of unstable governance and police misconduct on young Nigerians trying to build a future.
Mr Macaroni described the story as powerful and timely, urging audiences to reflect on personal responsibility in society.
“There should be consequences for actions,” he said.
Freedom Way earned major recognition at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where it won Best Film and Best Writing. It also landed nominations for categories such as Best Sound Design, Best Music, and Best Supporting Actor.
Producer Blessing Uzzi expressed excitement about the film’s cinema release in Nigeria, calling it a full-circle moment for a story grounded in local reality. Afolabi, meanwhile, said his goal was to spark critical conversations, hoping audiences engage with the film’s core message.
