NAFDAC has alerted Nigerians to the presence of fake Kiss brand condoms being sold in several markets across the country.
The agency said the warning followed reports from DKT International Nigeria, a group involved in family planning and HIV prevention. According to NAFDAC, the counterfeit products have been found in markets in Onitsha, Idumota, Trade Fair, as well as in parts of Kano, Abuja, Uyo, Gombe and Enugu.
NAFDAC explained that the fake condoms are dangerous and may easily tear, cause infections or fail to protect users from unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
The agency noted that the counterfeit products often have poor packaging, incorrect or missing manufacturer details and low quality materials with little lubrication.
“Using fake condoms can put people at serious health risk because they do not offer reliable protection,” the agency warned.
NAFDAC said its officers have been instructed to step up checks and remove the fake products from circulation. Nigerians were advised to buy condoms only from approved sellers and to report any suspicious products to NAFDAC offices.
