Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman has attained a significant milestone, ranking 14th in the 2024 Men’s Ballon d’Or awards, held in Paris, France.
The Atalanta forward came close to joining Victor Osimhen, who last year became the first Nigerian to reach the top 10 in Ballon d’Or rankings, finishing in 8th place.
Lookman’s ranking makes him the only African player nominated for the prestigious award this year.
His exceptional performance last season saw him score 17 goals and provide 11 assists for Atalanta, playing a crucial role in helping the club win its first-ever European trophy.
Lookman’s standout moment came in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored a hat-trick, leading Atalanta to a historic victory.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or list is led by standout players from Spain’s Euro 2024-winning team and Real Madrid’s Champions League-winning squad.
