The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, met with his Brazilian counterpart, Gabriel Muricca Galípolo, during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Brazil. Discussions focused on remittances, fintech growth, and mobile money as both countries seek closer collaboration.
Cardoso said Brazil’s Afro-Brazilian community, the largest outside Africa, offers cultural links that could strengthen remittance flows to Nigeria.
“Nigeria is building a more resilient financial system to attract capital, harness diaspora remittances, and create a stable environment where trade and investment can thrive,” he explained.
He also noted that Brazil’s record in financial inclusion provides lessons for Nigeria, while Nigeria’s growing fintech industry has ideas to share. Galípolo, on his part, described the talks as “critical to promoting financial stability and mutual prosperity.”
Both sides also held technical sessions on monetary policy and regulatory cooperation as part of efforts to build long-term institutional ties.
