Nigerian Striker Boniface Completes Loan Move to Werder Bremen

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen. The 24-year-old completed the move on transfer deadline day after passing his medical examinations.

The loan agreement does not include an option for Werder Bremen to make the transfer permanent next summer. This straight loan deal comes after several failed transfer attempts for the Nigerian international, including a collapsed move to AC Milan last month due to reported medical concerns.

Boniface expressed enthusiasm about his new opportunity, stating: “The discussions with those in charge convinced me to make the move to Werder Bremen. I want to contribute with my performances to help us achieve our common goals this season”.

Werder Bremen officials welcomed the signing, with head of professional football Peter Niemeyer noting: “We are convinced that he can continue the outstanding performances he has shown in the Bundesliga”. Coach Horst Steffen added that Boniface could be “a very important factor for us this season”.

The Nigerian striker played a significant role in Leverkusen’s successful 2023-24 campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing 9 assists in 23 league games as the club achieved an unbeaten domestic double. Overall, he contributed 32 goals and 12 assists in 61 appearances across all competitions during his time with Leverkusen.

Boniface will join compatriot Felix Agu at Werder Bremen, providing the club with additional attacking options as they seek to improve their Bundesliga standing this season.
