The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority cautioned Osun State residents against panic-buying and storing petrol at home ahead of the Christmas season. Kunle Adeyemo, the agency’s coordinator in Osogbo, issued the alert on Thursday to curb fire hazards and sharp practices. He stressed that sufficient supplies exist in depots nationwide to meet festive demands.
Adeyemo urged petroleum marketers to shun hoarding, diversion, under-dispensing, and adulteration at retail outlets. He warned that officials had ramped up surveillance of filling stations to enforce quality, quantity, and safety standards. Any violators would face strict sanctions, he added.
The coordinator highlighted the dangers of domestic fuel storage, which often sparks deadly blazes and wipes out families’ homes. “Petroleum products are available in all depots around the country,” Adeyemo said. “Marketers should not engage in diversion, under-dispensing, hoarding, adulteration or unsafe acts at retail outlets. Any marketer or operator caught engaging in sharp practices will be sanctioned accordingly.”
As celebrations draw near, the agency aims to shield lives and ensure steady access to fuel. Residents and sellers alike must heed the call to avoid needless risks during this joyful time.
